Obituary of Julia A. Weise

Julia (nee Corea) Weise, loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister & aunt.

Pittsford, NY- Julia A Weise passed away on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at Strong Memorial Hospital after a long illness.

Born on February 18, 1939, in Rochester, NY, she was the daughter of the late Jennifer (Durante) Geil and Nicholas Corea. She was raised by her grandmother, Julia Corea. She married her high school sweetheart on January 31, 1959, Lawrence Weise, who survives.

Julie grew up in East Rochester, where she attended East Rochester High School, graduating in 1957. She was very involved in Leaders Club, chorus and was Head cheerleader for all 4 years. She was also the little brown jug mascot in the football rivalry with Fairport.

In her next chapter, she became a full-time wife and mother raising her 4 children in Allegany, NY.  While her children were growing up, she was very active supporting her husband’s coaching career, being St. Bonaventure faculty club president, Co-Chair of the 1st annual St. Bonaventure Festival, Member of Newcomers Club of Olean, Director of Crafts, President of the Ladies Golf League at Bartlett CC, started the Ladies Wednesday Golf League at St. Bonaventure Golf Course and  played an active role in the  Olean community.  She spent 12 years as a teacher’s aide in reading and math at St. Bonaventure Parochial and Allegany Central Schools.  Her pride and joy were her husband and her kids and their families.  Mimi, as she was fondly referred to by her 10 grandchildren, never missed an opportunity to see them in all of their special activities regardless of where they lived. She could never say no to a request for her marble cake and special meatballs and sauce.  Julie was a very creative and artistic person who was always involved in making crafts and drawing.  Many great memories include taking family vacations together, playing LRC and listening to all her stories. Julie and Larry wintered in Lazy River Village in North Port, Florida for 28 years and have many friends and fond memories there as well. Julie had a special way of making people feel welcomed and loved and shared many memorable stories.  This was her superpower.  Julie was an active member of St. Jerome’s church and her Tuesday prayer group.

Julie is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Larry; children, Richard (Linda) Weise of Allentown, NJ, Robert (Georgia) of Freehold, NJ, Kathleen (William) Shaffer, North Port, Florida, Kristen (Brian) Nash, Lakewood Ranch, Florida; 10 grandchildren; Callan (Joe) Kaszubowski, LeighAnn (Steven) Lewis, Sydney Weise, Billy Shaffer, Bobby Weise, Ryan Weise, RJ Weise, Jack Nash, Dante Weise, and Abigail Nash; one sister, Jeanne Paige, two brothers, Norm (Stephen) Geil, David (Nina) Corea and many nieces and nephews who adore her.

She was predeceased by her mother and father, grandparents and several aunts and uncles.

Friends will be received on Wednesday, September 25th, 2024 at St. Jerome’s Church,  207 Garfield Street, East Rochester, 14445 where visitation will be from 9-10am followed by a 10am Memorial mass by Fr.
